This painting is one of a series of 26 Alphabet paintings measuring 10.5" x 13.5" (to fit 11x14 Frame) which celebrate the richness and diversity of the flora and fauna of the British Isles and the influence of the cultures that surround it. Mythological stories and ancient folklore handed down from our ancestors have given our beautiful Isles and all her creatures spiritual significance.The aim of this series of paintings is to continue this tradition by creating a collection of spiritual images inspired by folklore and Mother Nature to pass onto our own children based on the letters of the alphabet.
Spiritual and Folklore Interpretations: Letter ‘E'
Eostra: The Germanic goddess of Spring. She is usually depicted with her white rabbit a symbol of fertility.
Eagle: Confidence, freedom and responsibility.
Evening Primrose: Medicinal herb known as ‘The King’s Cure All’, rich in the fatty acid GLA believed to boost the immune and nervous systems.
Elm tree: Associated with mother and Earth Goddesses in British pagan Folklore.
Elderflowers: From the Elder Tree, said to protect from Evil in Pagan Folklore. Sacred to the Druids. Associated with the Midsummer Solstice.
Elder Berries: As for Elderflowers.
English Lavender: Medicinal herb known to help reduce stress and to promote sleep which can be traced back to the Romans.
Edelweiss: A hardy medicinal plant from Europe said by many to stimulate the skin’s natural processes.
Goddess Symbol: 3 moon phases with pentacle
Spirals: Ancient Celtic sacred symbol.
