As many of you know, as a Pagan artist there is often deep spiritual meaning behind my creations. I have enjoyed the challenge of bringing this sailor to life. He has fought me a little and the portrait developed as I painted him away from the initial ideas in my head. Originally, I had planned to paint a Norse inspired sailor steering a longboat across the water but the energies felt wrong with war breaking out in Europe. Instead, I felt the need to paint something more salient and reflective. Here, my Pathfinder is seen under a starry sky with hints of the Northern Lights. His expression and pose is of someone deep in thought, no longer knowing where he is going or why he travels yet he is compelled to take this journey. He feels both quiet excitement and anxiety yet he is safe. He brings with him strength and protection for those who need it. Water as an element is often linked with emotions. Here the sea is unseen as our emotions are hidden from view. The stars link to the collective consciousness as we move through uncertain times together.
