About the Design - The Holly King
The original painting was inspired by stories of the Oak King and Holly King in British Folklore. The Oak King is often depicted as The Green Man, the personification and guardian of nature over the Winter Months. His crown is adorned by Holly, Mistletoe, Spruce, Pine and Ivy which are all sacred plants/Trees within Celtic and Druid Mythology.
