This poisonous woodland plant has over 100 common names including Lords and Ladies and Cuckoo Pint. It is mentioned in folklore for its magical properties, as an aphrodisiac and is linked to superstition. Its red berries are highly toxic but it is pollinated by a small furry insect called the owl midge.
